I Didn't Take the Time to Say Goodbye...

...because I thought that I would be back. Honest, I really did. I'm still a maker of things, just not so much time now. Maybe I'll be back, but Miss Prickly needs a rest. There are other things to do now.

You didn't really think I could do EVERYTHING did you? Even if I could be super-mom-who-makes-lovely-things I don't think I want to be that woman. Perfectly adequate mom who sometimes makes lovely things would be nice. At least if my children felt loved and my family and friends felt cared about it would be nice enough.

Also, I have far too many dresses and don't think I should make any more for awhile.

Plus, I've been running a ton. Faster even than I was when I started.

I blog sporadically about that here. For now, see you all later.

Pondering the Triathlon

I did a slow 2 miles on Wednesday, on a river trail by my house. After nursing tendonitis this summer, I'm just getting back into a running routine. My kids were with me on their bikes and we stopped near the end of the trail to skip rocks in the river. My ten-year-old just skipped a rock for the first time last week in the same spot, and he was eager to teach his sister.

In the distance, I saw a bunch of splashes and bright little dots in the water. After talking with a woman who emerged from the water before the rest of the group, I learned that they were from a local triathlon training club and met at this cove for their weekly training.

The kids were happily skipping rocks, so we talked about being a 40+ woman and training for running events and triathlons until it was nearly dark.

I've run 5Ks, 10Ks and half-marathons so I'm intrigued. I'm wondering if I could do this. I'm wondering if I WANT to do this. It seems to me that adding biking and swimming to a running routine is a great way to stay fit and minimize the injuries that seem to be inevitable with running long distances.

Have you trained for a triathlon? What was it like?

I'm not wanting to commit to anything this year, but I'd love to get a road bike and start with a weekly ride to supplement my running workouts. Is it possible to find a road bike that doesn't break the bank?

Is there a way to cover my pear-ish backside while I'm riding a road bike?

Oh La La High Waisted Panties

I've always wanted to try making my own underwear. They were so easy! I used some tee shirts from my refashion stash, stretchy fabric from Joannes and fold over elastic.

I think that they're pretty cute, plus they fit very well!

I'm so glad to put my old Wonder Woman tee shirt to good use.

You can use wovens, cut on the bias, for the front and/or back panel. I used a scrap of a map of Paris on this yellow pair.

I used this pattern by Sarah Elaine on Etsy. Sarah also has some cute finished versions for sale in her shop.

Oregon Strawberries + Lemons + Vanilla Beans

I had high hopes for my new summer cookbook, and the first recipe has delivered!

This jam is rich, sweet, tangy with lemons and has a strong vanilla flavor. It made my toast sing this morning! I added a tablespoon to my strawberry/banana smoothie and it made me very happy.

DIY Sparkly Hair Clips

Penelope And Pip has a great idea for making your own sparkle hair clips using Mod Podge and fine glitter dust.

Makes me wonder what else needs sparklin' around here!
